Needing to Rehome

The re-homing questionnaire has been temporarily removed.

We do not have time to process new dog forms currently due to being flooded with requests.

Sorry

Preparation: How you present your terrier for rehoming will determine the quality of their future life. There are lots of sharks out there waiting to 'cash in' - no dog should be rehomed unneutered (unless too young). You owe this to them to guarantee they will not be acquired, then exploited. We are on the receiving end of rescuing terriers from council pounds, dumped on the streets as soon as their pups were sold or in season. No doubt they have had a series of homes. You are finding it hard to cope and, unless it's a stronghold terrier home, the person you pass them onto are likely to struggle too. Neutering calms and avoids hormonal variation and will make homing more successful. We take 'redundant!' dogs from puppy farms only to discover a dog so obviously by reading their behaviour, originated from a domesticated family life prior to 'puppy farm hell'. So people that advertise 'free to a good home' fool themselves and are easily duped by disguised puppy farm agents that imprison the dog for prostitution. Likewise a breeder keen to take their dog back, heard they were neutered, suddenly didn't want to know! Please prepare your loved one...it is the best insurance policy you can give them so they remain a loved 'pet'. Ideally you also need to make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date too. You owe them this.

A little more time: When the decision is made to rehome your terrier we ask you to offer your dog a little more time. Yes it's a stressful situation for you. In our view dogs aren't disposable items that you can get 'rid' of with the rubbish. They are loyal dependents whose future rests on the right home search to match their needs. In an emergency situation we can buy kennels near our base if space is available, but it costs £220 a month. We then have to neuter, vaccinate and chip before we can advertise. We ask you to put your dog's needs first for a little more time. We have no savings, we can't help every terrier, we struggle to help the ones that we do. We are a specialist in our field and this is the best you can offer your terrier, but we need you to meet us halfway.

Have no shame: Whoever said terriers were easy dogs! Terriers lose their homes for a variety of genuine reasons nowadays. Most people take them on innocently without appreciating their feisty natures and just can't provide them with the occupation they need - like people in their 70's looking for a young terrier. People appreciate the stimulation collies require...terriers are very similar with add on security issues, plus! Rest assured we have wonderful terrier home that come forward with their feet on the floor and their sleeves rolled up! So whilst you may need to hold on a little while, be assured, that the right family is out there for them!
